On My Mind

It's been a while; I know. Finals, winter break, and the fact that I no longer have access to a DSLR are all to blameee (along with my self indulgent days spent in bed watching Netflix)!!! AK and I took these pictures while shooting for the previous post, but I hesitated so post them because quite frankly, I wasn't happy with the way my body looked in them.

It's no news that women are held to ideals of beauty that are unattainable. That woman you see on the cover of a magazine envies her cover-self as much as we do, and the fashion industry especially is brutal to women's perception of themselves. I've had many girls tell me "You're so pretty; I hate you," as some type of compliment. I wish I could say I'm flattered, but I can't help but feel that the second part of their statement is more true than they'd like to admit. I also can't help but think about how I woke up and changed 20 times, and spent half my morning obsessing in front of a mirror over my eyebrows or the tiniest pimple that no one else notices until I start complaining about it.

We are our biggest critics in the end, yet outside pressures are unavoidable. As perfect as you think a woman may be, she still feels the same struggle to accept her flaws.
I took inspiration for the colors in these photos from a photo I found on tumblr found below.
